Lukáš Houdek was born in 1984 in a Czech labor family that brought him up in a four-room prefab flat in Stříbro (Western Bohemia). There he graduated in the eight-year grammar school.
He took his degree in Romani studies at Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Philosophy and Arts.
He focuses mostly on the humanistic and documentary photography. He reports long-term on the life of the Roma in different European localities. In 2009 and 2010 he was reporting on the life and customs of the Doms, the “ancestors” of Roma in India.
He cooperates with several magazines. He is the close coworker of the Romano voďi journal and the internet news server www.romea.cz. Since 2009 he works as an editor of Romano voďori journal for the multicultural youth.
In 2008 Lukáš Houdek passed the four-month GLEN residency in MYSA Association in Nairobi, Kenya. There he tough young students from slum to photojournalism.
This year he took part in documenting of the situation of Roma in Kosovo. He regularly wrote articles and interviews for www.romea.cz. You can read these texts in the rubrics Roma in Kosovo - 12 years after the war.
Lukáš Houdek admires French fries with the mayonnaise. On the other hand he dislikes stupidity, discrimination, beer and the dill sauce.
